Rain in Burbank right now.

 The rain started early AM.

The parade is 48 hours from now. May the weather system continue to move and move out.

Added note. The horse show yesterday was well done.

The Monday storm was even worse.

My previous post mentioned wind but not rain, snow melt and flooding. A car swept away with two deaths and other serious impacts.  Power out to nearly half the population. Long lasted impact to funds for road and bridge repairs must also be on the list

The howling wind striped twigs and pine cones as well as huge limbs and entire trees.

A storm with extreme wind just moved out.

Today we had six hours of wind gusts near 50 mph.  This storm charged north from Florida to Canada. Trees down, power out and flooding were all serious results.

Nap in the car.

Spring and fall naps are toasty.  Summer naps  can be sweltering.  At camp  I can't open the windows because of mosquitoes.

Winter naps quite often are too cool,  cold  or frosty. The  rocker recliner inside today was the location.

Icicles on the edge of the roof.

When the temperature is well below 32F the sun melts a thin layer of snow. The droplets reach the cold edge of the roof and freeze. More droplets run down the accumulating ice and the icicle grows.  The roof flat surface is warm, the free fall air at the roof edge is not.

The initial melting happens because the roof presents a flat face to the sun. Energy from 93,000,000 miles away is significant.  The sun heats a flat surface but not the air.  The air (scattered molecules with large space between) must gain energy from some warm surface.
