Rain in Burbank right now.

 The rain started early AM.

The parade is 48 hours from now. May the weather system continue to move and move out.

Added note. The horse show yesterday was well done.

The Monday storm was even worse.

My previous post mentioned wind but not rain, snow melt and flooding. A car swept away with two deaths and other serious impacts.  Power out to nearly half the population. Long lasted impact to funds for road and bridge repairs must also be on the list

The howling wind striped twigs and pine cones as well as huge limbs and entire trees.

Monday, December 18, 2023

A storm with extreme wind just moved out.

Today we had six hours of wind gusts near 50 mph.  This storm charged north from Florida to Canada. Trees down, power out and flooding were all serious results.

Nap in the car.

Spring and fall naps are toasty.  Summer naps  can be sweltering.  At camp  I can't open the windows because of mosquitoes.

Winter naps quite often are too cool,  cold  or frosty. The  rocker recliner inside today was the location.

Icicles on the edge of the roof.

When the temperature is well below 32F the sun melts a thin layer of snow. The droplets reach the cold edge of the roof and freeze. More droplets run down the accumulating ice and the icicle grows.  The roof flat surface is warm, the free fall air at the roof edge is not.

The initial melting happens because the roof presents a flat face to the sun. Energy from 93,000,000 miles away is significant.  The sun heats a flat surface but not the air.  The air (scattered molecules with large space between) must gain energy from some warm surface.

Public transportation to an island.

I walk to the convenient bus stop,  get off  in city center,  walk to the ferry terminal then ride out and back to Peaks Island.  The city walk is under two miles round trip.  I do this about once a year.  A bit brisk today with the wind chill on the top deck.  I was awake well before 4AM  so today I also did my three mile loop.

A few truths!

The only person I control is myself.

If you ask is that my business, the answer is it isn't.

One of my truths is to walk away.

Some are good hosts, others very good.

And recently even others pretty much a blank stare.

No comprehension of how to be a low middle host.

I was asked, do I miss it?

Do I miss teaching young drivers?  I answered that I miss having specific and structured work .

Show up to drive with students for four hours. Show up to teach a three hour class. Show up to shovel snow off the car. Show up to shovel the car out of a TOO BIG snow bank.

You hear me. Some things are more fun than others.  Watching the improvement (rapid improvement) was always fulfilling. More than eight out of ten became focused and skilled.  Those with existing bad attitudes mostly  did not change.  I can relate follow up stories for a few.

Unedited writing (a rough log) is just that.

Even after writing rests for weeks attempting a smooth log is fraught with challenges.

A script or cursive rendering is even more difficult.

Writing for the future reader may well need blemishes.

Added to extended season post+++

On top of extended tourist season, we have an extended mosquito season. Just a mosquito here and there but usually there are none by September. Plenty of wet conditions to explain why the mosquitoes are here.

HMMM. Will a few of the spring hatch be now unavailable?

Monday, September 11, 2023

An extended season.

Sunday, yesterday we had a choice. Ice cream at THE FROSTY or onion rings. I had just finished my clam chowder and dark beer. She was in the mood for onion rings.

So why extended season? The Frosty has always closed on Labor Day. Now a week later it was still open.

Summer is on schedule.

Around the early to middle of January cold (sometimes bitter) settles in. In the same way mid July is T-shirt weather time.

As Tony our Log Church summer pastor says, summer is a time to reflect. Jesus says you love, I'll judge.

We have been back at camp six days.

Our sibling zoom zoom travel started Thursday and ended last Sunday. All eight stood for a group photo. Now the outlier is back to rain at camp.

There is good news. My beginning and end of the year procedure is to use garbage cans as a temporary water source. Later  I fill the very long lake intake plastic pipe. I had success yesterday. Water is now pulled directly up from the lake.

A summer long source of non potable water.

Somehow water must move through the pressure tank in to the camp plumbing. In the fall I drain water to prevent frozen and burst pipes. Yesterday I reversed the process and put back all plugs, reconnected pump and tank and  established pressure in the system.

If I lugged water at eight pounds per gallon I would move hundred's of pounds per week. Now we open a faucet.

Settling in for days of rain and cloud.

Our first April in Maine (1990) seemed cold.  As we found out in most of the following spring transitions, coastal Maine is always cold (cool) in April.  The ocean is cold and gives only biting cool in the warmest summer days.

P.S. Much of May is the same.

So what is my point? I should not expect anything other than as above. My eighteen Aprils in Minnesota, four in South Dakota and eight in Nebraska gave swings of north wind cold to south wind warmth. The farm land and black soil warmed each sunny day.  The Gulf of Maine and Casco Bay do not.

Psalms 89:52 AMEN AND AMEN

I try to do so prior to seven days from the previous post.

This one is a day after a 787,000,000 dollar settlement. Various liars including many current constituents tolerated and claimed the lie.

Some are even those who at one time took an oath of office but scoff at past killed-in-action real Americans. May I be allowed to say too many Republicans are bowing at the feet of an incompetent moron.

Is this who you are?

How many people rioted at the U.S. Capitol?

More than 2,000 rioters entered the building, many of whom occupied, vandalized, and looted; assaulted Capitol Police officers and reporters; and attempted to locate lawmakers to capture and harm.

A deposition (under oath)

Most are careful not to lie under oath.  Many support the LIAR who took an oath of office with no intent to support the constitution of the United States.

So do they the constituent liars intend to say, OH, no need to take the oath of office. One hundred and thirty of the House also hate the United States and failed to honor their oath of office.
